Content Creation Guidelines

Please read these guidelines carefully before creating content. If you have any questions, please email our light-speed mailbox at [email protected].

These guidelines provide rules for creating content on Voccent. They cover content planning, channel and challenge requirements, playlist and story requirements, and formatting guidelines for audio samples. Challenges should be between 1 and 10 words, with an average of 3-5 words, and interactive challenges should have annotations. Each playlist should have at least 15 items, and each story should have at least 3-5 acts with thematically aligned pictures and, if needed, a background noise. Multiple authors can work on one story, and it is recommended that the story content correlates as close as possible to a corresponding playlist(s) so the student will have an opportunity to practice in detail.

Rules

  1. Content Planning
    1. Content planning should occur before anything is created.
    2. Determine the methodology, such as a curriculum that is realistically achievable. Example: Content Plan Example.
    3. Share the plan with the content team at [email protected].
    4. Identify the target audience and estimated number of students who will use the content.
    5. Determine the expected usage of the new content.
    6. Determine the channels and whether they differ from existing ones. If not, identify the advantages compared to others.
    7. Determine the topics to cover (categories) and whether they differ from existing topics. If not, identify the advantages compared to others.
  2. Channel Requirements
    1. Each channel should have playlists filled with challenges by topic.
  3. Challenge Requirements
    1. Keep the challenge length between 1 and 10 words, with an average of 3-5 words.

    2. Keep the challenge length between 5-10 seconds.

    3. Challenges can be in two modes: monologue and interactive.

      1. Monologue challenges are for teacher introductions (e.g. "My name is..., and this playlist is about..."). Students cannot repeat after this challenge. The duration can be more than 10 seconds if needed. Try to end it with "...are you ready?" with a playful and fun emotion.
      2. Interactive challenges are the actual challenges. Students can repeat after the teacher. The duration must be between 5 and 30 seconds, with a recommendation of around 5-10 seconds.
    4. Do not put punctuation marks in the annotation.

    5. Use either own images and pictures styled similarly. Ensure a high entropy level of the images by not using the same images often and not using the same content for similar types of content.

    6. If no pictures come to mind, use Voccent Public Library's huge set of pictures.

    7. If nothing in Voccent Public Library is aligned with the topic, feel free to send a request to [email protected].

    8. Once a challenge has been recorded, validate it.

      1. Try to fail the challenge at least 3 times. It is considered failed if the percentage is less than 50%.
      2. Try to pass the challenge at least 2 times. The threshold to pass is when the comparison got at least 70%.
      3. Test it on Mobile app - “Sounds of Annotations”,

If possible, involve other people in the testimonials.

    9. Properly format the challenge audio sample:

      1. The recording should have at least 0.5 second at the beginning and 1.0 second at the end.
      2. The recording should be recorded in a quiet environment.
      3. The challenge needs to have annotations placed where the author considers it right.
      4. Challenges in interactive mode are not accepted if no annotations are added.
      5. Annotations are supposed to be written in Latin characters (e.g. любовьlyu-bo-v').
      6. The categories, levels and language need to be set correctly.
      7. The spelling must be in the language used for the recording and as set in the languages above.
      8. Be careful about enumerating content:
        1. Bad: Conversation 123
        2. Good: Conversation between two people in the restaurant
  4. Playlists Requirements
    1. Each playlist should have at least 15 items, ideally 30-40 items.
    2. The first challenge in the playlist needs to be an introduction: "In this playlist, we're..."
    3. For each playlist, there should be at least one story created.
  5. Stories Requirements
    1. Each story has to have at least 3-5 acts.
    2. Each story act needs to have at least 3 items.
    3. Each story act needs to have thematically aligned pictures and, if needed, a background noise.
      1. Pictures can be selected from either Voccent Public Library or uploaded by the author.
      2. Pictures and audios shall not contain any copyrighted elements.
    4. Stories, in most cases, should have:
      1. Branching (either by vote or by audio comparison result).
      2. Be told with emotions and voice tricks.
    5. Certification: If a quiz is being created, it's more interesting and appropriate to have different elements, such as votes, audio results, optional answers, etc.
    6. Multiple authors can work on one story.
    7. It is recommended that the story content correlates as close as possible to a corresponding playlist(s) so the student will have an opportunity to practice in detail.
  6. Campuses, Classrooms and Plans
    1. Create a Campus (usually one-time procedure)
    2. Create a Classroom or Classrooms
    3. Populate Classrooms with the Plans
